Kilkenny Archaeological Project
Since 1968 there have been over 250 archaeological investigations carried out in Kilkenny City, the largest amount from any Irish inland town. These have led to the recovery of a vast amount of new information about how Kilkenny developed over the past two millennia, how everyday life was lived in the city and the industries, crafts and technologies that were carried out there. However virtually none of these finds have ever been published and a huge gap exists in our knowledge of the city’s past. This led in 2008 to the setting up of the ‘Kilkenny Archaeological Project’, a Heritage Council and Kilkenny Borough Council supported project to bring the city’s archaeological discoveries to publication over the next three years.
